Death Knight Guide
With the debuted of Wrath of The Lich King on November 16th, 2008 included for the first time was the Death Knight Hero Class.
Now some people get the misimpression that a Hero-class is going to be overpowered compared to the current classes, when in reality the hero class simply starts at a higher level and is slightly more complex to play (more spells/abilities).
Some people claim the Death Knight is Overpowered, it's hard to claim that unless you've played one. Yes, a well played Death Knight is very powerful and can kill extremely fast, however, as with any class, if you learn to play correctly (especially in PVP) which means knowing what to do against certain classes, it really isn't overpowered.
To create a Death Knight you'll need a level 55 character (on the same realm you will create your Death Knight on), so if you don't have a level 55 character, you'll have to wait until you do to make a Death Knight.
One thing that's nice about Death Knights (when you're the death knight of course) is you start out with basically all Blue quality gear, and since you start your character at level 55 basically you can really kick some ass in PVP if you get to lvl 58/59 because you will out gear the majority of the players (which is very annoying when you are not the Death Knight).
Death Knight Basics:
- Starts Out With Mostly Blue Gear, Will Have ALl Blue Gear By Level 58 From Quests
- Starts out in Death Knight area (Necropolis) with Death Knight only quests, can not leave area until finished with the level 58 quest line.
- Gets a Free 100% Fast Mount (requires completion o simple quest).
- Does not start out able to use all Talent Points right away, you receive extra talent points when you level and complete the initial quests, so make sure you check your talents because sometimes you'll realize you have 10 points or more you never spent.
Death Knight Builds:
So which "spec" should you choose for your Death Knight? Well, here's a sum of the trees.
Blood - Single Target DPS and Self Healing Spec.
Frost - Single/Multiple Target Tank/DPS Build (more hybrid)
Unholy - Multiple Target AOE Build, you also control your pet as a normal pet so he's always out.
Now, depending on your play style will depend your choice. I currently am Frost and when used right it is very high dps, but it does require learning and getting used to before you can kill anyone in PVP, especially early on.
Unholy is probably the most popular and easiest to Level/PVP with until higher levels, I recommend unholy until at least level 70, you could literally be unholy and never die in PVE, it's very good survivability for PVE especially, also very good PVP until later levels where Frost and Blood become much stronger in my opinion.
Blood really lacks in PVP until later levels, but makes PVE easy because the healing.
As of right now, there's not many people that would argue but, unlike a lot of classes single tree specs seem to be the best for Death Knights.
Meaning, put the majority of your points into one tree. I prefer Frost and Blood, Mainly Frost but partially into the blood tree for the Healing Runes and extra crit make it very nice in PVP.
More to come for the Death Knight. This will be continually edited.

There's lots of guides out there on WoW.
But, there's only ONE everyone agrees is the most complete, comprehensive guide and that's the Ultimate World of Warcraft Guide.
Want To Level 1-80 In Record Time?
Not problem with the In game leveling system designed to let you practically level in your sleep. The in-game system is so revolutionary, it shows you exactly where to go, what to kill, and where to turn in your quests with an arrow and location tracker all inside the game! |
I was blown away when I first used the in game quest system.
I used to spend half the time playing alt-tabbed out trying to find directions and coordinates to where the quest objective was, or where a person was located in the world to turn a quest it. No more with the Ultimate World Of Warcraft Guide!
I completed 5 quests in the time it normally took to complete 2 and finally finished the quests I didn't feel like figuring out where to go before, I won't play without it anymore! |
